After much planning and preparation a new venture was launched on Thursday 6th March 2014. The Youth Club began with a party night. The leadership team were pleased to welcome 34 children on the first night, the majority of whom were attending the Army for the first time. People from the Corps had baked cakes to add to the party atmosphere and during this first session the young folk enjoyed many different things from dodgeball to play dough to darts. Those who attended were asked to suggest a name for the new youth club and for ideas on what they would like to be included. As you can imagine, there were some great ideas. All left happy and keen for the next week, including the helpers!
The second week saw an increase to 42 children. They could choose either upstairs or downstairs activities. Upstairs had the table games, Barbie’s and arts and crafts. Whilst downstairs was more soft ball games. The tuck shop was launched this week which proved very popular.
On the third week, 46 children attended. The night began with parachute games which was great fun. Children were split into two groups, roughly by age, and continued to enjoy playing more traditional games including Duck Duck Goose, and drop the lid.
A few weeks into this new venture, there are now more than 50 children attending. The leaders want to keep the club fresh and intend to mix the format weekly, the possibilities are endless.
Lets continue to pray for this new venture, for it’s enthusiastic leaders and team of helpers and most of all the young folk who come along each week. Congratulations and well done to all involved.
